There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that features numerous luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
