There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel building that highlights numerous luxuries in addition to the casino, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
