There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall betting is illegal. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau casino, features 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel compound that features numerous luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
